Laboratório Nacional de Energia e Geologia I.P.

LNEG is a Governmental laboratory from the Ministry of Environment and Climatic Action. Its mission is to carry on R&D oriented to the society needs in the areas of Energy and Geology and to promote scientific and technological innovation, contributing to increase competitiveness of economic agents in the context of sustainable progress of the Portuguese and European economies. LNEG is an active partner of the major networks and collaborative platforms in the areas of Energy and Geology. LNEG was awarded the “HR Excellence in Research” from the European Commission being also certified according to the NP EN ISO 9001:2008 for Quality Management System and with the NP 4457:2007 for the System of Research, Development and Innovation. LNEG’s main activity is materialized in the support to the private and industrial sector through applied R&D consultancy; and support to public policies and to the Portuguese government through public initiatives and contracted research. LNEG has developed extensive RD&D work in the area of renewable energy and was a pioneer on the grid integration of variable renewable energy – VRE (wind and PV) conducting research in the area for the past 20 years. LNEG is composed by two Laboratories – the Energy (LEN) and the Geology (LG) Laboratories, each with responsibility on the corresponding research area. The work developed in this project is in scope of LEN’s activities.
